When your PODS or portable storage container arrives at your destination, the hard part should be over — but unloading a tightly packed container is physically demanding and time-consuming. NEM PODS unloading crews handle the entire process: opening the container, carefully removing each item (accounting for potential load shifting during transport), carrying everything inside your home, and placing items in the correct rooms. Furniture that was disassembled for loading is reassembled — beds, desks, shelving, and dining tables put back together with proper hardware. Items that may have shifted during transport are handled with extra caution. Our crews are familiar with all major container brands and their door mechanisms, tie-down systems, and typical load configurations. The unloading process is essentially the reverse of professional loading: straps are released first, items are removed from front to back, fragile items are identified and set aside for careful handling, and heavy furniture is dollied directly into the home. At the end, the container is completely empty and ready for the container company to pick up, and your home is furnished and ready for unpacking.
PODS unloading is priced hourly with a 2-hour minimum. A 7-foot container typically takes 1-1.5 hours with 2 movers. A 16-foot fully loaded container takes 2-3 hours. Furniture reassembly time is included in the hourly rate. All equipment (dollies, tools, floor protection) is included. You pay only for actual time worked.
Our crews are experienced with this. They open the door carefully, assess any shifted items, and remove them safely. Items pressing against the door are handled with extra caution to prevent damage.
Yes. Items are carried to any floor including basements and upper levels. Stair carries are part of the standard service — no extra charges for multi-level unloading.
It is best to have someone present to direct furniture placement. If you cannot be there, provide detailed room assignments for each item and the crew will follow your instructions. A labeled floor plan works well.
Yes. Long-term storage containers may have slight moisture or dust on items. Our crew unloads carefully and can wipe down furniture before placing it. We recommend inspecting items as they come out.
Contact your container company (PODS, U-Pack, etc.) to schedule pickup after unloading is complete. Most companies retrieve within a few business days. Ensure the container is fully empty before scheduling pickup.
Be present when the container door is first opened to inspect for any visible damage or shifting before the crew begins removing items
Have a game plan for large furniture placement before unloading starts — deciding where the couch goes while the crew waits costs time
If the container was loaded without professional help, expect some reorganization work as the crew may need to restack to reach specific items
Set up utilities (especially electricity for lighting) at your new home before the container arrives — unloading into a dark house is inefficient and unsafe
Keep a marker and tape handy during unloading to label any items that need attention — damage discovered during unload should be documented immediately
