Appliance disposal is a specialized removal service for heavy, bulky household appliances that cannot go in regular trash pickup. Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges, window AC units, water heaters, and other major appliances require proper handling due to their weight, size, and the regulated materials they contain. Refrigerators and freezers contain refrigerant gases (R-134a, R-410a) that must be recovered by EPA-certified technicians before the units can be recycled. Air conditioners have similar requirements. Washers and dryers contain motors, bearings, and drums that recycling facilities separate and process. NEM crews handle the in-home portion of the process: disconnecting the appliance (except gas connections, which should be done by a plumber), protecting floors and walls during removal, carrying the unit out of your home regardless of stairs or tight spaces, and loading it for transport. We route all appliances to certified recycling facilities that comply with EPA guidelines for refrigerant recovery and component recycling. Metals, plastics, glass, and rubber are separated and recycled. Our service is significantly faster and more convenient than waiting for municipal bulk pickup, which in many cities only comes monthly or requires you to bring the appliance to the curb yourself.
Appliance disposal pricing is per unit with flat-rate pricing for standard appliances. Refrigerators and freezers may have a slightly higher rate due to refrigerant recovery requirements. Multi-appliance removals receive per-unit discounts. The price includes all labor, transport, and recycling fees. No separate dump fees, environmental surcharges, or hidden costs.
Electric appliances (plug-in): our crew handles unplugging and basic disconnection. Gas appliances (gas ranges, gas dryers): we strongly recommend having a licensed plumber or gas technician shut off and cap the gas line before our arrival for safety.
Yes. Basement refrigerator removal is very common. Our crews use heavy-duty dollies and stair-climbing equipment specifically rated for appliance weights. We protect the stairs and walls during removal.
Yes. Refrigerant-containing appliances (refrigerators, freezers, AC units) are taken to EPA-certified facilities that recover refrigerant using approved methods before recycling the unit's metal and plastic components.
Yes. Book appliance disposal alongside your NEM appliance delivery for a seamless swap. We remove the old unit and deliver the new one in the same visit.
We focus on major freestanding appliances. Small installed items like garbage disposals and range hoods typically require a handyman or plumber for removal. We can haul them away if they are already disconnected.
Empty and defrost the refrigerator or freezer 24 hours before the pickup — water from a defrosting unit makes removal messy and creates a slipping hazard
Pull the appliance away from the wall slightly before the crew arrives to give them access to the power cord — do not try to disconnect water lines yourself unless you know how to cap them
If replacing an appliance, schedule the removal for the same day as the new delivery to avoid having two appliances in your home simultaneously
Check with your local utility company before disposal — many offer rebates or free pickup programs for old refrigerators and freezers that are less energy-efficient than current models
Take a photo of the appliance model number and serial number before disposal in case you need the information later for warranty or utility rebate purposes
